March 7-8: Ghost Shipwreck Festival
Join in celebrating the 9th annual Ghost Ships Festival March 7th & 8th, 2008 at
The Wyndham Milwaukee Airport and Convention Center just across from the General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee.
Ghost Ships Festival is a conference devoted to Great Lakes Scuba Diving and
Maritime History. Exhibits, workshops, and presentations cover just about every aspect of maritime history and Great Lakes scuba diving. You can listen to and interact with leading dive industry professionals, extreme explorers, maritime historians, and Great Lakes authors!
Try your luck at the Ghost Ships raffle. Last year we gave away over $8,000 in
raffle prizes! The Ghost Ships Festival is hosted by the Great Lakes Shipwreck
Research Foundation (GLSRF) . They are a Wisconsin non profit (501 (C)(3))
corporation organized for the purpose of furthering public awareness of our
Great Lakes marine heritage through education and research, and promoting
conservation, study and responsible enjoyment of historic Great Lakes shipwrecks by divers and non divers alike.
Every year a group of our members go up for the day. If you are interested
please let Tim Buck know. Car pooling will be arranged. If you want more

March 30th: Underwater Competition - Elk Grove Village Park District
Teams compete against each other in various skill-challenging events - tricycle
race, three legged race, dive table problems, pipe construction, obstacle
course, and more. All are done under water.
Tim Buck has arranged car-pooling if you are interested in going please contact
him by Friday evening.
April 19th: Great Lakes Shipwreck Festival- Presented by the Ford Sea Horses Scuba Diving Club. The popular event is back after a 3 year hiatus. New facility, more details to come or check out the link: www.shipwreckfestival.org
May 13th Club Meeting: Swap Meet...Gear Locker Sale....Antique Road Show
At the club meeting you can bring any of your scuba gear you maybe interested in selling or swapping. There maybe even a few antiques to purchase.
July 20th: Jim Haigh Memorial Dive- at the Haigh Quarry, Kankakee, Il.
Get together with your fellow divers to have fun in the sun for a very good
cause. The last year the Memorial Dive raised $3,250.00 for the John G. Shedd
Aquarium Volunteer Diver Equipment Maintenance Program.

September 20th: International Beach Clean Up Day- The ICSSD has not designated a location for their clean up yet. If you have a location that you would like to suggest send them a note.
This is the 23rd year of this annual event, the world's largest, one-day volunteer effort to clean the aquatic environment. This event is coordinated by Ocean Conservancy and Project Aware. With a unique view beneath the surface , divers see first-hand the effects of harmful debris.
Participating in International Clean Up Day is a great way for divers to give back.

October 5th: Underwater Pumpkin Carving - at Haigh Quarry, Kankakee, Il.
Annual underwater pumpkin carving. Show off your creativity and you buoyancy
control. Pumpkins area very, very, buoyant. Can you do it? Come out and see the bobbing pumpkins.
October 11th: ICSSD's Presidents Night - Location TBD
Annual dinner and dance. Awards presented to the Club, Diver and Humanitarian of the Year. Fantastic raffle throughout the evening featuring trips, charters,
gear and more!
PAST EVENTS:
January 12, 2008 Holiday Party The holiday party will be held at AL's Steakhouse in Joliet. The board has decided on a 5.00 fee for covering the cost of gifts and additional treats.
February 15-17: Our World Underwater
It will held at the Donald G Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont. Go to

looking for volunteers to help man the Council booth at Our World Underwater. Mark your calendars with the dates.
Please stop by the ICSSD and Dive Heart booths and show your support. Also keep an eye out for comment/post cards from Our Ocean Legacy, they are interested in your opinions and feelings as the Government is creating new rules which will govern oceans and fisheries for the next decade.
February 23rd: Chicago Maritime Festival at the Chicago History Museum
The festival offers concerts, seminars, workshops, exhibits and kids activities.
The festival is organized by the Chicago Maritime Society, the Chicago History
